Resumption of Research Support Services at Western Arctic Research Centre

September, 6 2023

Over the last few weeks, the Northwest Territories (NWT) has encountered significant challenges, including extensive forest fires and the evacuation of nearly 70 percent of NWT residents. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time, particularly to those who had to change or cancel their field plans.

While the South Slave region remains under evacuation orders, Yellowknife's status has been downgraded to an alert level, allowing residents to return starting in the afternoon of September 6, 2023. The State of Emergency is scheduled to end on October 2, 2023. In line with this, the Western Arctic Research Centre will resume regular logistical support services on September 11. This includes accommodations and field research supports.

Researchers are welcome to submit logistical requests, effective immediately (September 6, 2023).

Please be aware that due to the construction of our new warehouse building, both storage availability and access are significantly restricted. We advise making offsite storage arrangements if needed and ensuring access to your equipment before you arrive. For any specific questions regarding your storage situation, contact logistics@nwtresearch.com.

Lastly, all research activities in the NWT require licensing; ensure your research licences are current. For more information, visit https://www.gov.nt.ca/ecc/en/services/apply-do-research.
