Summer Student Program

The GNWT supports northern post-secondary students in their pursuit of education by providing summer work opportunities to help them gain valuable work experience and enhance employment prospects upon completion of their studies.

Post-secondary students are hired as casual employees and are subject to the same terms and conditions as other casual employees.  Between April 15 and August 15, students will be given a higher priority than non-students registered in the same Affirmative Action category for casual employment with the GNWT.

Eligibility:

You must be a current resident of the Northwest Territories and meet ONE of the following criteria:

  • are being accepted to attend full time post-secondary studies at the start of the fall or winter semester.
  • are completing a semester of full time studies at a post-secondary institution within the four months prior to applying under this program.
  • are graduating from a post-secondary institution (see also Northern Graduate Employment Program)
