Joel McAlister – ASA Mentor of the Year!

December 10, 2016

Congratulations to Joel McAlister, the 2016 APECS Canada – ASA Mentor of the Year!

Joel is the Senior Instructor in the Aurora Campus Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program. In his time at Aurora College, Joel has graduated over 40 students from this program, many of whom have gone on to careers in research and monitoring in the western Arctic. Former students banded together with colleagues and researchers to nominate Joel for this prestigious award, which is awarded annually at the ArcticNet banquet dinner.

The Mentor of the Year award is a joint initiative of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) Canada and the ArcticNet Student Association (ASA). It honours exemplary mentors within the polar science community of Canada, acknowledges the time and energy that mentors dedicate to the development of early career researchers, and recognizes their efforts in building a supportive research community.

Way to go Joel!
