My career has been vast and varied from working with Forest Management in Fire Operations, Pay & Benefits - Human Resources, Employment Liaison, Executive Assistant, Executive Director, Vice-President of the GTC, and Chief Returning Officer for GTC Elections.
I have two artists in my family and encouraged their artistic creativity and supported their endeavours. It was only natural that I follow my own interest in the Arts by becoming the Executive Director for the Great Northern Arts Society in 2018. This was an amazing opportunity for me and I learned so much from very little knowledge to finding and researching everything that needed to be done to pull together two Great Northern Arts Festivals. Sadly I finished working in March 2020 and with the pandemic affecting the world and events, the GNAS cancelled its annual festival. I joined the GNAS Board of Directors so that I could continue helping and be an advisor. My Jijuu, Joan was an amazing artist creating beautiful clothing for my Jijii, Edward Nazon, her family, and making dog blankets for the dog team. My memories of her work is so vivid and it will always be my first experience with traditional arts and crafts.
Giving back to my community is important to me and to move our society forward in Self-government and to encourage the best from our youth to stay in school, seek higher education, and to build a flourishing society. I was recently elected as a director to the Nihtat Gwich’in Council, and serve as a council or member on the Great Northern Arts Society, Inuvik Native Band, and Inuvik Youth Centre.
