Trevor Lantz visits Thebacha Campus December 9th for Speaker Series

Thebacha campus welcomes Trevor Lantz for the next installment of the Scientific Speaker Series, Monday December 9th, from 1- 2:30 in room 148.

Trevor Lantz is a professor in the School of Environmental Studies at the University of Victoria.  His latest project is a community mapping website that enabled local experts from communities in the Inuvialuit and Gwich’in settlement regions to tell the story of environmental change. Aboriginal land-users documented their environmental knowledge and observations with photos and video, and these were posted on an online map that was made accessible to community members and researchers.  Over the past three years, the project has collected photos and recordings from 52 local experts at over 270 locations.  Douglas Egasok is one of the community experts from Inuvik who has participated in this project.

Come to a presentation on their project on December, with a discussion afterwards about how our community could use this approach to document our own stories.

Hope to see you there!
