In 2017, the Aurora Research Institute received funding from the Coastal Restoration Fund (Fisheries and Oceans Canada) to study permafrost thaw slumping on Kugmallit Bay and create a plan to mitigate the effects using local plant species. The 2018 annual research update gives an overview of the research conducted so far and outlines future work. You can read the report here.
Our priority at this time is the health and safety of the Aurora College/Aurora Research Institute community, as well as the larger NWT and research communities. In response to the global pandemic of COVID-19, the Western Arctic (WARC), North Slave (NSRC) and South Slave (SSRC) Research Centres are currently closed. A limited amount of WARC research support and logistical services for outside researchers are available at this time.
