Aurora College welcomes scientist Mike Dixon to Fort Smith September 30th

Mike Dixon has been active in the development of Tomatosphere, a program for Canadian students developed by the Canadian Space Agency. Since its inception 11 years ago, 14 000 classrooms have participated in Tomatosphere’s hands-on experiment that challenges students to think about life support systems in space: How do we grow food? How do we produce oxygen? What do we do with waste?

Dr. Dixon’s school presentations were enthusiastically received by students at JBT elementary school and PWK High School (it doesn’t hurt that he knows some famous astronauts personally!) At Aurora College, Dr. Dixon provided a presentation that explored the development of Tomatosphere as an educational outreach program - this presentation was attended by several community members, staff members and the entire Developmental Studies program.
