Dr. Pertice Moffitt – Research Associate, retired Instructor and Health Research Program Manager – is the bronze recipient of the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Leadership Excellence Award for Faculty 2021.
Awarded annually since 2010, the CICan Leadership Excellence Award for Faculty recognizes an individual or team who has exhibited consistent excellence in teaching and has had a significant impact on the personal and academic growth of students. This is the first CICan Excellence Award for Aurora College and the first CICan Leadership Excellence Award for Faculty to be awarded to an institution in a Canadian territory.
Dr. Moffitt has had a distinguished career with Aurora College spanning three decades. She was instrumental in the development and implementation of the first Nursing program in the Northwest Territories (Diploma of Nursing, offered by Aurora College, which later became the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, offered in partnership with the University of Victoria). She has served as Acting Chair of the School of Health and Human Services and between 2011 and early 2021 was manager of Health Research Programs at Aurora Research Institute, the research division of Aurora College, while also instructing in the College’s nursing programs.
As Aurora College continues to transform to a polytechnic university, there will be increasing opportunities for award-winning research through expanded research partnerships and research services.
“Dr. Pertice Moffitt embodies the values Aurora College seeks in instructional and research staff: a dedicated educator and scientist, with an innate capacity to connect with individuals and adapt her teaching to meet the varied needs of learners. The positive impact Dr. Moffitt has had towards the success of Northwest Territories’ nursing education programs is remarkable. Her legacy will live within Aurora College for generations of health care professionals and researchers.”
