November, 24 2023

YELLOWKNIFE (November 24, 2023) – Aurora College and NWT partners in research and education are hosting two events to celebrate and showcase northern student research.

On Wednesday, November 29, a number of Aurora College’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Practical Nurse Diploma and Personal Support Worker Certificate students and others will present major research projects as part of Northern Nursing Research Day. The event, co-sponsored by Aurora College and Hotıì ts'eeda, provides an opportunity to display and honour scholarship and academic research of students, faculty and invited scholars. It is being held on the third floor of Yellowknife North Slave Campus. The poster presentations are open to the public 10:00-11:30 AM and 1:30-3:00 PM.

This semester, fourth year BSN students have been involved in research within the Nursing Research Course, the intent of which is to increase their understanding of nursing scholarship and enhance their ability to comprehend, critique and utilize nursing research.  The topics chosen and unique approaches taken underscore the importance of developing and applying research that is for the North, by the North and with the North to improve the quality of health care available to Northerners.

Later in the week, on Friday, December 1, Aurora College and Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning are hosting the Northern Student Research Gathering at the Yellowknife Ski Club. The gathering will bring together student researchers and their mentors to share and celebrate their work. The public is invited to view and hear about the research 1:00 – 3:00 PM.
